RULES & REGULATIONS OF THE STANDARD CHARTERED KL MARATHON (SCKLM) 2017

  1. The Standard Chartered KL Marathon 2017 (“the Event”) is organised by Dirigo Events Sdn. Bhd. (“the Organiser”) with the full support of Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (“DBKL”) and the Malaysia Athletics Federation (“MAF”) in accordance with the International Association of Athletics Federations (“IAAF”) and the Standard Chartered KL Marathon Rules and Regulations.
  2. By signing up for and providing any information, personal or otherwise, in order to gain access to any product(s) and/or service(s) and/or participate in any programme(s), event(s), talk(s), demonstration(s) or any other activities involving the Organiser and the Event sponsors (“the Sponsors”), the individual (“the Participant”) is deemed to have given explicit permission for the Organiser and the Sponsors to collect, analyse, collate, share, disclose to third parties, sell and/or otherwise use without any liability to the individual, any personal information relating to that individual as may in its sole discretion deem fit, including without any limitation for its programmes, planning, data-processing and statistical or risk-analysis, research, fund-raising and/or any other purposes in furtherance of the functions. The Organiser and the Sponsors declare by virtue of being the Event owner or sponsor, they can use services of third parties;
    1. For development or implementation of programmes, products or services as it may deem necessary;
    2. For outsourcing of any programme(s), event(s), talk(s), demonstration(s) and/or any activities;
    3. For promotional, marketing and/or administrative purposes;
    4. For all purposes as required by law, including without limitation court proceedings, criminal investigations or prosecutions or where so ordered by any competent authority;
    5. In connection with any proposed novation, assignment, transfer, sale, lease, license, partnership, joint-organising and/or any collaboration where and when required in relation thereto.
  3. By signing up for the Event, the Participant agrees that the Organiser might post the full race results on the website after the race.
  4. The Organiser reserves the right to modify or substitute any of these Rules and Regulations of the Event from time to time as they deem fit. If there is ambiguity in any of the provisions, the Organiser shall be the authority to interpret and in doing so, the Organiser will take into account the interests of all the affected Participants. Any updates on the Rules and Regulations of the Event will be notified on the official Event’s website, www.kl-marathon.com and it is the responsibility of the affected Participant to keep abreast with any changes.
  5. Completion of the official entry form, including online registration, confirms the Participant’s agreement to abide by all the relevant Rules and Regulations of the Organiser, IAAF, Sponsors and the Standard Chartered KL Marathon.
  6. Registration for the race is only confirmed upon payment made and upon issuance of a race identification number.
  7. The Registration fees for Malaysian Residents are in MYR, for Singaporean Residents in SGD and for any other Residents in USD. Malaysian Residents include Malaysian citizens residing in Malaysia, Malaysia permanent residents and expatriates who hold a legal pass/permit residing in Malaysia. Refer to the Event’s website for further details.
  8. In consideration of the Participants use of the Event’s website, the Participants agree to;
    1. Provide true, accurate, current and complete information contained in any registration form (such information being the “Registration data”);
    2. Maintain the security of their password and identification; and
    3. Maintain and promptly update the registration data to keep it true, accurate, current and complete. The Organiser may contact the Participants from time to time by email and/or mobile device. Any notice sent to the email address and mobile device registered with the Organiser shall be deemed as received by the Participants. If the Participants provide any information that is untrue, inaccurate, not current or incomplete, or the Organiser has reasonable grounds to suspect that such information is untrue, inaccurate, not current or incomplete, the Organiser may suspend or terminate the Participant's registration and refuse Participants any and all future use of the Event’s website (or any parts thereof).
  9. The Organiser reserves the right to cancel or postpone the Event at any time without prior notice to the Participants, in which case the Organiser will make effort to inform the Participants prior to the date of the Event. If the Event has to be cancelled or postponed, there shall be no refunds of fees or donations paid unless the Organiser deems fit to give a refund and the Organiser shall not be held liable for any loss or inconvenience caused.
  10. There will strictly be no refunds available if the Event is cancelled for reason of force majeure i.e. due to occurrence of incidents that are beyond the control of the Organiser or acts of God which renders it impossible or unsafe to hold the Event.
  11. The Organiser reserves the right to amend the Event race routes as the Organiser deems fit for the safety of the Participants and/or to prevent any potential hazards in the running of the Event, at any time without prior notice to the Participants. In such cases, every effort will be made to inform the Participants prior to the date of the Event. The Organiser shall not be held liable for any loss or inconvenience caused due to such changes.
  12. While every reasonable precaution will be taken by the Organiser to ensure the Participants’ safety, Participants run solely at their own risk and the Organiser will not be responsible or held liable for any injury or death howsoever arising from training for, during, or after participation in the Event. Participants are strongly encouraged to go for a medical examination and/or consult their medical practitioner prior to registration and before the actual Event Day.
  13. The form on the reverse side of the Participant’s running bib must be completed in full and accurately. Participants must wear the assigned bib number visibly on his/her chest at all times. Participants who do not display bib numbers will be taken off the course by security officers/officials and immediately disqualified.
  14. If the Participant's original bib number is lost or cannot be found during Race Entry Pack Collection, the Organiser reserves the right to replace it with a spare bib number. The Organiser reserves the right to amend or substitute any Participant’s running bib at any time without prior notice to the Participant.
  15. Participants might start from different Start Pens based on their estimated time of completion. Participants are to assemble in their respective Start Pens which are reflected on their bib.
  16. Road closures on the Full Marathon Route will be lifted after seven (7) hours from commencement of the race (cut-off time). Cut-off times will be set at specific checkpoints along the Full Marathon route to ensure the safety of runners who are unable to complete the race within the seven (7) hours and to ensure that the roads can be re-opened to the public in accordance with the Event permit.
    1. There will be several checkpoints along the route for the Full Marathon Participants.
    2. If the Full Marathon Participants do not reach each checkpoint within the stipulated cut-off time, he/ she will be required to board the sweeper bus provided. Runners on the sweeper bus will be taken to a location nearby Dataran Merdeka. All busses will have a Standard Chartered KL Marathon Vehicle Access sticker on the windshield.
  17. A Participant must retire from the race immediately, if required to do so by any member of the official medical staff, Race Director, Referee, and/or security officer.
  18. Pets, bicycles, in-line skates, prams, push carts, shoes with built-in or attached rollers and any other wheel-run objects are not allowed on the course other than official race and medical vehicles.
  19. Once registration has been duly processed, there will be strictly no refunds of fees and donations for Participants who do not eventually participate in the Event for whatever reason.
  20. The Organiser reserves the right to use any photographs (including those of Participants), motion pictures, recordings, or any other media records of the Event, for any legitimate purpose including commercial advertising and distribution to Sponsors anywhere in the world.
  21. The Organiser reserves the right to limit and/or refuse entry to the Event and/or other programme(s), event(s), talk(s), demonstration(s) or any other activities involving the Organiser and the event sponsors without giving any reason and/or notice.
  22. The Organiser will not entertain nor be in any way responsible for any disputes arising from incomplete or inaccurate entry details in the registration form.
  23. The Organiser reserves the right to cancel and/or add any race category without prior notice to the Participants.
  24. Participants are strictly not allowed to transfer their race entries to another party or change race categories after their registrations are confirmed, except through the official registration transfer module from the Organiser.
  25. This registration transfer module is applicable for confirmed Participants in the individual category only and is meant for Participants who are either indisposed or unwilling to participate on the Event Day. Participants in these categories are not allowed to transfer their race entries through the registration transfer module;
    1. Group Registration
    2. Run For A Reason
    3. Ministries, Universities and Corporate Challenge
    4. Standard Chartered Bank Staff
    5. Sponsored Entries

  26. Any Participant who commences to run before the actual flag-off of his/her registered race category will be immediately disqualified. (Please refer to individual race category start times).
  27. Participants who do not start within 20 minutes of respective flag offs (Full Marathon, Half Marathon, 10km), for safety reasons may not be allowed to start and will be immediately disqualified.
  28. Participants must be 18 years old or older as of Event Day to participate in the Full Marathon (42.195km) Category.
  29. Participants must be 16 years old or older as of Event Day to participate in the Half Marathon (21.1km) Category.
  30. Participants must be 15 years old or older as of Event Day to participate in the 10km, Universities Challenge and Ministries Challenge Category.
  31. Participants must be 13 years old or older as of Event Day to participate in the Fun Run (5km) Category.
  32. Participants below the age of 18 are required to obtain parental/guardian’s consent and complete the relevant indemnity declaration form as deemed necessary by the Organiser upon registration, failing which, the Organiser reserves the right to refuse entry to any applicant under the age of 18.
  33. A Participant is considered a veteran if his/her 40th birthday falls on or before the Event Day and will automatically participate in the Veteran Category (for competitive categories). If a veteran wishes to participate in the Open Category, he/she needs to select ‘Open’ during registration process.
  34. A Participant in the Malaysian Category and Malaysian Veteran Category (Full and Half Marathon only) must be a Malaysian citizen who holds a valid Malaysian Passport and/or Malaysian IC to be eligible to participate in these categories. The Malaysian Category is open to Malaysians aged 16 years old and above, while the Malaysian Veteran Category is open to Malaysians aged 40 and above.
  35. A Malaysian Participant aged below 40 years old will automatically participate in the Malaysian Category (Full and Half Marathon only). If he/she wishes to participate in the Open Category, he/she needs to select ‘Open’ during registration process.
  36. A Malaysian Participant aged 40 years old and above will automatically participate in the Malaysian Veteran Category (Full and Half Marathon only). If he/she wishes to participate in the Open Category, he/she needs to select ‘Open’; and if he/she wishes to participate in the Malaysian Category, he/she needs to select 'Malaysian' during registration process.
  37. The Organiser will not be responsible for any loss and/or damage, personal or otherwise, to the belongings and items deposited at the Event baggage storage provided for the runners. The Organiser also reserves the right to check any item or baggage deposited.
  38. Malaysian Residents (except Universities Challenge, Ministries Challenge, Corporate Challenge, Group Registrations and Sponsored Entries) can choose upon registration whether he/she prefers to use the postal service delivery of their Race Entry Pack.
    1. The Race Entry Packs will be couriered to the address provided in the registration forms latest 3 days prior the Event Day.
    2. Each Race Entry Pack is chargeable at RM25 per pack for Peninsular Malaysia and RM30 per pack for East Malaysia.
    3. The Organiser is not responsible for any undelivered Race Entry Packs due to incorrect or incomplete address.
    4. The Organiser is not responsible for any undelivered Race Entry Packs due to unavailability of receiver at the delivery address.
    5. Undelivered Race Entry Packs will be returned to the Organiser and Participants must collect their Race Entry Pack on the last day of the Race Entry Pack Collection (REPC) during the pre-determined period and location as stipulated on the Event’s website.
    6. No refund will be provided for undelivered Race Entry Packs.
    7. Should the Participants choose to transfer his/ her registration through the registration transfer module, the postal service delivery of their Race Entry Pack will automatically be voided without refunds. There is no postal service delivery of Race Entry Pack offered to the new registrants under the registration transfer module. Refer to the Event’s website for the Rules and Regulations of the registration transfer module.
  39. All Participants who elect not to use the postal service delivery of their Race Entry Pack which is offered to Malaysian Residents during registration (except Universities Challenge, Ministries Challenge, Corporate Challenge, Group Registration and Sponsored Entries) must collect their Race Entry Pack which contains their bib number, timing chip (attached to the back of your bib number for competitive events only), running singlet, and other sponsored items during Race Entry Pack Collection (REPC) during the pre-determined period and location as stipulated on the Event’s website.
  40. All Race Entry Packs not collected during REPC will be deemed to be unwanted, and the Organiser shall be at liberty to dispose or re-distribute them accordingly. Race Entry Packs cannot be collected on Event Day.
  41. There are a total of six (6) individual distance categories;
    1. Full Marathon (42.195km)
    2. Half Marathon (21.1km)
    3. 10km
    4. 5km Fun Run
    5. 3km Kids Dash
    6. 1km Kids Dash
  42. The “Gun Time” will be used to determine the winners for each of the following categories;
    1. Men’s Full Marathon, Half Marathon and 10km Speed (Open Category)
    2. Women’s Full Marathon, Half Marathon and 10km Speed (Open Category)
    3. Men’s Full Marathon, Half Marathon and 10km Speed (Veteran Category)
    4. Women’s Full Marathon, Half Marathon and 10km Speed (Veteran Category)
    5. Men’s Full Marathon and Half Marathon (Malaysian Category)
    6. Women’s Full Marathon and Half Marathon (Malaysian Category)
    7. Men’s Full Marathon and Half Marathon (Malaysian Veteran Category)
    8. Women’s Full Marathon and Half Marathon (Malaysian Veteran Category)
  43. There are 3 different starts in the 10km Category;
    1. 10km Speed
    2. 10km Cruise
    3. 10km Leisure
  44. With the exception of the Universities Challenge, Ministries Challenge and Corporate Challenge Participants, only Participants of the 10km Speed Category are eligible for prize money and winner’s medals.
  45. The “Net Time” will be used to get an overall ranking in all competitive categories.
  46. Participants must finish the competitive categories within a stipulated time to be eligible for a finisher certificate. The cut-off times are as follows;
    1. Full Marathon: 7 hours
    2. Half Marathon: 3.5 hours
    3. 10km Speed: 75 minutes
    4. 10km Cruise: 90 minutes
    5. 10km Leisure: 120 minutes
  47. General rules for Full Marathon, Half Marathon and 10km (competitive categories):
    1. Each Participant is allowed to win only one prize-money award in the category that he/she has registered for.
    2. The Organiser reserves the right to replace any winners if he/she is found to be disqualified.
    3. Prize winners must report to the prize giving zone as stipulated on their winner tag. In case a runner fails to do so, the Organiser may donate the cash prize money to charity.
    4. All prize-winning Participants must present their original identification document (such as Passport or Identity Card) to collect their prize money.
    5. Prize money above RM 500 will be submitted to the winner through bank transfer within 30 days or after the Organiser has received the doping results.
    6. For prize winners or possible prize winners, disputes and appeals must be made within 30 minutes of the published results on the results notice board on-site or immediately after the prize presentation, whichever is earlier, failing which the Organiser reserves the right not to entertain any disputes or appeals thereafter.
    7. For all other Participants, disputes and appeals regarding the results must be submitted in writing including electronic mail within 3 days after the Event Day. The Organiser reserves the right not to entertain any dispute or appeal after 6pm on 24 May 2017.
    8. For all disputes, the Organiser’s decision is final and no other disputes thereafter will be entertained.
    9. The timing chip is a single-use, disposable device attached to the back of the bib. Participants must wear the assigned bib number visibly on his/her chest. Participants in the competitive categories must make sure that the bib is not covered with a jacket or his/her arms when running over the timing mats,
    10. All Participants who successfully complete the competitive categories within their respective cut-off time will be awarded a finisher medal upon presentation of their bib number to the respective staff.
    11. All Participants who complete the Full Marathon within the cut-off time shall also receive an exclusive Event finisher T-shirt upon presentation of their bib number. Sizes are subjected to availability.
    12. All finisher medals and T-shirts must be collected on Event Day and no requests will be entertained thereafter.
    13. All Participants who successfully complete the Full Marathon, Half Marathon or 10km within the respective cut-off times will be awarded an e-certificate. The e-certificate will be made available on the website by 6pm on 23 May 2017. This entitlement will not apply to Participants who were unable to complete the race within the respective cut-off times, are disqualified or do not complete the race. The availability of the e-certificate will only be until 31 December 2017. There will not be any hardcopy finisher certificate mailed out.
  48. 5km Fun Run and Kids Dash (non-competitive categories)
    1. Fun Run
      1. Participants must be 13 years old or older as of Event Day to participate in the 5km Fun Run.
      2. Fun Run is an individual, non-competitive event and therefore no timing chips will be issued and no official timing will be recorded or provided.
    2. Kids Dash
      1. There are 2 (two) different categories for the Kids Dash differentiated by age groups;
        1. Between 6 to below 10 years old (age as of Event Day): 1km Kids Dash
        2. Between 10 to below 13 years old (age as of Event Day): 3km Kids Dash
      2. Children under 6 years old as of Event Day will not be allowed to participate in any of the Kids Dash categories.
      3. Registrations for the Kids Dash shall be entered by their legal parent/guardian and who must submit the relevant indemnity declaration forms upon registration. Failing which, the Organiser reserves the right to deny entry to any participant.
      4. For children aged between 6 to below 10 years old, only one parent/guardian will be issued with an identification tag and allowed to accompany the child during the race.
      5. The Kids Dash is non-competitive, therefore no timing chips will be issued and no official timing will be recorded or provided.
    3. All Participants in the Fun Run and Kids Dash categories will be awarded a participation medal upon presentation of their bib number on Event Day. There will not be any certificate of participation given out to Participants in the Fun Run and Kids Dash categories. The participation medals must be collected on Event Day. No requests thereafter will be entertained.
  49. Groups of individuals may register in bulk under Group Registration.
    1. Group registration is open to Malaysian Residents only. Minimum number of Participants per group is 20 and maximum is 50.
    2. Each group can select either one distance category or a mixture of any distance categories in the Full Marathon, Half Marathon, 10km and 5km.
    3. Payments of registration fee can be made either by issuing a cheque to the Organiser or remitting to the Organiser’s bank account.
    4. There will be no mailing option of Race Entry Pack available for Participants who register under Group Registration.
    5. All Participants will be ranked as individuals in their respective distance categories and all other Rules and Regulations apply.
  50. Universities Challenge and Ministries Challenge (flag-off together with the 10km Cruise Category).
    1. The universities/ministries have to be based in Malaysia to participate in the Universities/Ministries Challenge.
    2. Each team must register at least 3 Participants and up to a maximum of 50 Participants to participate in their respective categories irrespective of gender.
    3. Team members of Universities Challenge must be students from the same university.
    4. Team members of Ministries Challenge must be employees from the same ministry.
    5. Payments of registration fee can be made either by issuing a cheque to the Organiser or remitting to the Organiser’s bank account.
    6. There will be no mailing option of Race Entry Pack available for Participants who register under the Universities/Ministries Challenge.
    7. In both categories, the university/ministry with the lowest aggregate “Net Time” of their top 3 runners will be declared the winner.
    8. In case of a tie, the university/ministry with the lowest “Net Time” of the slowest runner will determine the winner.
    9. All Participants will be ranked as individuals in the overall 10km rankings. Every Participant in the Universities/Ministries Challenge will be treated as individual runners of the 10km Cruise Category and all other Rules and Regulations apply.
  51. Run For A Reason and Corporate Challenge.
    1. Run For A Reason is our charity platform for individual runners.
      1. Participants who register online for Run For A Reason in support of our official charity partners are bound by the specific Rules and Regulations of the Run For A Reason programme in addition to Rules and Regulations applicable to the individual categories as stipulated on the Event’s website.
      2. A Participant can choose to register in one of the 4 distance categories, namely Full Marathon, Half Marathon, 10km or 5km.
      3. All participants will be ranked as individuals in their respective distance categories and all other Rules and Regulations apply.
      4. There is no registration fee to participate in the Run For A Reason. However, Participants are required to make an initial donation of RM150 to the chosen charity organisation. This amount will be reflected as the first donation raised on Participant’s profile page.
      5. A Participant registered for Run For A Reason has to raise a minimum amount of RM500 (from online donations) by 3 May 2017 to be entitled to an exclusive complimentary T-shirt from the Event’s official apparel partner. Sizes are subjected to availability.
      6. Minimum amount from online donation is RM30 per transaction
      7. Regardless of eventual runner participation, all donations collected will be donated to the designated charity partner and no refunds will be made.
    2. Corporate Challenge is our charity platform for businesses and companies
      1. The company must be based in Malaysia to participate in the Corporate Challenge.
      2. Each company must register a minimum of 3 Participants, irrespective of gender.
      3. Team members of Corporate Challenge must be employees from the same company. All Participants will flag-off together with the 10km Cruise Category.
      4. Registration fee for each Participant is RM60.
      5. For each Participant, the charity donation is a minimum of RM1,000 (Total minimum donation per team is RM3,000). The entire amount will be donated to the charity partner(s) as designated.
      6. Payments of registration fee and donations can be made either by issuing cheques to the Organiser or remitting to the Organiser’s bank account.
      7. There will be no mailing option of Race Entry Pack for Participants who register under the Corporate Challenge.
      8. The team with the lowest aggregate “Net Time” of the first 3 finishers will be declared the winner.
      9. In case of a tie, the team with the lowest “Net Time” of the slowest runner will determine the winner.
      10. All Participants will be ranked as individuals in the overall 10km rankings. Every Participant in the Corporate Challenge will be treated as individual runners of the 10km Cruise Category and all relevant Rules and Regulations apply.
    3. The Organiser shall not be held liable for any activity that is not considered as legal, committed either by the official charity partner, any organisations or Participants who register and raise funds for the Run For A Reason or Corporate Challenge programmes.
    4. All other charities or non-profit organisations must seek the approval of the Organiser to take part in any fund-raising project using the Event as a platform but not in conjunction with the Event. Please contact the Organiser for further details.
