Dirigo Athlete Development Programme

The Dirigo Athlete Development Programme is a training programme designed by a running coach as appointed by Dirigo Events Sdn. Bhd.

 

The programme was created and implemented with the sole purpose of providing an accessible platform for Malaysians to be discovered and undergo proper training to maximize their athletic potential specifically in the field of distance running.

 

The programme is a high-performance results-oriented programme, therefore the highest expectations in attitude, discipline and respect must be held by the athlete in order to attain maximum results.

 

All Dirigo athletes will be sponsored and managed by Dirigo Events Sdn. Bhd. Sponsorship of athletes includes a full training programme helmed by Mark Williams, required running gear such as training shoes and racing flats, apparel such as training vests, socks and shorts, performance energy supplements such as energy bars and gels and race exposure to local and regional races and the opportunity to try out for the Malaysian SEA Games team in 2015.

 

This exclusive team of distance runners will be instrumental in propelling the standards of long distance running in Malaysia and as such we will be looking for athletes that possess ability to propel themselves to another level and throughout the programme display the 4 key attributes of world class athletes – desire, commitment, discipline and mental strength. 

 

The details of the inaugural Dirigo Athletes Team try-out is as follows;

Eligibility;

a. The Dirigo Athlete Development programme is open to Malaysian Citizens only.

b. The Athletes must be between the ages of 16 years – 30 years at time of selection.

c. The Athletes must be of sound health of mind and body and may be required to undergo medical assessments.

d. Selection of Athletes are at the discretion of the appointed running coach and Dirigo Events Sdn. Bhd.

 

Requirements;

MEN - Must have achieved either a sub 3.15 Marathon in the past two years OR a sub 1.30 Half Marathon in the past two years OR a sub 40 minute 10 km in the past two years. 

WOMEN - Must have achieved ether a sub 3.35 Marathon in the past two years OR a sub 1.45 Half Marathon in the past two years OR a sub 22.30 5 km in the past two years. 

 

Try-out Mechanism;

1. Athletes will be evaluated by :

a. Finishing time

b. Split time per loop

c. Pace & consistency


2. A total of 6 athletes will be chosen based on overall performance and potential.

 

3. Chosen athletes will be informed within a week after try-outs.

4. Itinerary :

Important note: Registered participants are required to sign-in by 7.30 am


5. Each session comprises of :

a. Short briefing by Mark Williams

b. Warm-up (runners warm-up and stretch on their own)

c. 5 km time trial
