Kechara Soup Kitchen Society (“KSK”) is an 18-year-old, tax-exempt, non-profit organisation with a mission to provide food and basic sustenance to the urban poor, rural poor, Indigenous communities, and the houseless across Malaysia. We are appealing to kind Malaysians to support our efforts in expanding our outreach to Indigenous communities.
In addition to Kuala Lumpur, KSK operates four hubs located in Penang, Perak, Pahang, and Melaka, supported by a nationwide network of dedicated volunteers. Our mission is to assist those in need, regardless of race, religion, culture, or background.
In recent years, KSK has strategically expanded its focus to address upstream poverty by reaching the most vulnerable segments of society before they fall into severe hardship. This expansion has been realised through our Food Bank and Empowerment programmes, both of which aim to support individuals and communities on the brink of poverty.
We have strengthened our efforts to serve poor, underprivileged, and marginalised communities through three core programmes:
- As a member of The Global FoodBanking Network (GFN), KSK champions SDG 1: No Poverty, SDG 2: Zero Hunger, SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, and SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production. - KSK supports 5,000 urban poor, rural poor, and Indigenous beneficiaries across Malaysia through bi-monthly food aid, as well as regular rescue and redistribution of surplus produce to charity homes.
- Through skills training in baking and sewing, single parents participate in corporate projects where they produce baked goods or sewn items. Proceeds from these projects go directly towards supporting their financial needs. - In collaboration with Indigenous communities, KSK supports Indigenous students through weekend classes funded by donations, using the 3M modules — Membaca, Menulis, Mengira (Read, Write, Count). - These efforts align with SDG 4: Quality Education.
- Providing meal sets and social welfare assistance to houseless and urban poor communities. - Through this programme, we address SDG 2: Zero Hunger and SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being.

KSK is raising funds to provide essential food packs to Orang Asli villages affected by monsoon conditions. These include remote communities located within forested areas of Taman Negara, such as Kuala Tahan, as well as flood-prone villages in areas like Baling, Kedah. Each food pack contains essential items to support families during periods of restricted access and food insecurity, including biscuits, canned food (baked beans and sardines), a chocolate-based drink, cooking oil, dry or instant noodles, milk powder, oats, and rice.
